A Man of Character - Margaret Locke

5 Stars!

ABOUT THE BOOK -
What would you do if you discovered the men you were dating were fictional characters you'd created long ago?

Thirty-five-year-old Catherine Schreiber has shelved love for good. Keeping her ailing bookstore afloat takes all her time, and she’s perfectly fine with that. So when several men ask her out in short order, she’s not sure what to do…especially since something about them seems eerily familiar.

A startling revelation - that these men are fictional characters she’d created and forgotten years ago - forces Cat to reevaluate her world and the people in it. Because these characters are alive. Here. Now. And most definitely in the flesh.

Her best friend, Eliza, a romance novel junkie craving her own Happily Ever After, is thrilled by the possibilities. The power to create Mr. Perfect - who could pass that up? But can a relationship be real if it’s fiction? Caught between fantasy and reality, Cat must decide which—or whom—she wants more.

Blending humor with unusual twists, including a magical manuscript, a computer scientist in shining armor, and even a Regency ball, A Man of Character tells a story not only of love, but also of the lengths we'll go for friendship, self-discovery, and second chances.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR -
As a teen, Margaret Locke pledged to write romances when she grew up. Once an adult, however, she figured she ought to be doing grown-up things, not penning steamy love stories. Thank goodness turning forty cured her of that silly notion!

Now happily ensconced back in the clutches of her first love, Margaret is never happier than when sharing her love for a grand Happy Ever After with y'all.

Margaret lives in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley in Virginia with her fantastic husband, two fabulous kids, and two fat cats. You can usually find her in front of some sort of screen (electronic or window); she's come to terms with the fact that she's not an outdoors person.

MY THOUGHTS -
Oh, I am so excited about this new author!
This was definitely a "chill-bump" book! Twice I had to put my iPad down and take a break because of the tears that were streaming down my face! I feel like an emotional basket-case right now! But I am a sap when it comes to books. This was like reading a fairy tale, a magical fairy tale. I just added this to my list of "most romantic books".

It was like a combo of Practical Magic and Kate and Leopold (two of my favorite movies). Magical Realism is one of my favorite genres and this one was was excellent.
It was all fun and games in the beginning then it gets sad when reality sinks in. I cried because it was sad and I cried because it was happy and I cried because it was just so darn touching!

Great character development. I loved Cat and Eliza (two BFFs) they were great together! But man, I fell hard for Will! I think I was "literarily" (I know that's not a word - I made it up) in love with him. He was so romantic, sweet, rich, handsome - pretty much everything you'd want in a man - he was PERFECT! If Cat doesn't want him, I'll take him!

Who would your perfect man be? What would he be like? Would he be the same man you dreamed about as a teen or in college or have your tastes drastically changed? If you could make "the perfect man" - would you?

Who would be the perfect man for Cat? What a cute, sweet, PERFECT book, gave me chill-bumps on several occasions!
"I think it would be awesome to have such power."
Cat set the laptop aside for a minute. "But what about the potential repercussions?"
"What repercussions?" Eliza flopped down on the sofa next to her friend. "You get to create your own reality. You can have the Perfect Man you've always dreamed of. You can fix all your problems. Sounds ideal to me."
"Does it? Does it truly? I mean I know everybody thinks they want the easy life, but..."
The next book - A Matter of Time is Eliza's tale. I can't wait to read that one.
