A Billion Reasons Why, by Kristin Billerbeck (Review and giveaway)

4  STARS

About the book -
He’s a handsome billionaire. She’s not impressed.

Katie McKenna has never loved any man but one: billionaire Luc DeForges. He was her first love. But there are a billion reasons why she's engaged instead to Dexter Hastings, a solid and stable man who wants the same things she does: marriage and a family but all of the things that she wants without the deep-seeded pain and fear of being abandoned that Luc brings.

Dexter and she have worked an arrangement that's akin to faith without action, love without deeds -- a dead faith. Going home to New Orleans to sing for her childhood friend's wedding, Katie must search her heart to find out if any of her reasons for being with Dexter are stronger than love. Only when Katie steps fully into faith and jumps off the cliff of life into the arms of Luc does she understand the fullness of God's grace.

My Review -
This is a Christian Chick Lit/Romance type book (just my kind of book). I have to be honest - I didn't start out loving this book, it grew on me as it went along and by the end I was in love.

Kristin has a knack for character development. The two main characters in this cast are Luc, whom I loved! I don't know if you are suppose to love him right from the start, but I did! I could see right through the multi-millionaire facade. He was cute, outspoken, funny, romantic, and honest to the core! And a millionaire to boot! What girl wouldn't fall in love with him?

And then there's Katie, whom I did not fall in love with right away. In fact I found her to be quit annoying at first. I did grow to like her though. She totally doesn't know what she wants, or she does and just won't admit it, or she thinks she does and is confused by everyone else's views on her life. Whatever the case, she does make the right decision in the end, finally!

I do want to add that I totally disliked Eileen, Katie's room-mate and friend. She is nothing but a busy body, control freak who doesn't know when to shut up! There were so many times during the book where I wanted to yell at her "Just shut up already! Mind your own business!" But I guess even hating a character is a good thing too because it shows passion.

Another thing I wanted to add was that this totally reminded me of the movie "Sweet Home Alabama" which is not a bad thing, I love that movie! It actually helped me to picture Katie as played by Reese Witherspoon. By the way, I pictured Luc being played by Matthew McConaughey (as in "The Wedding Planner"). If you read this, let me know what you think.

  7. I really enjoyed this book! There were a few things that didn't quite mesh with the rest of the story but it didn't detract from my overall opinion. I loved Luc and Katie together and how they interacted. I loved that Luc was trying to prove to Katie he hadn't changed - all the money had done nothing to alter him. I couldn't help but smile at the constant mention of his fedora and the fact that he only started wearing one after meeting Katie. The gesture struck me as sweet for some reason. Katie's mom was one of my favorite characters. Her outspoken personality and accent made for some laugh-aloud moments.
