The Fame Game - Lauren Conrad
5 Stars!!!!!
ABOUT THE BOOK -
In Hollywood, fame can be found on every corner and behind any door. You
just have to know where to look for it. Nineteen-year-old Madison
Parker made a name for herself as best frenemy of nice-girl-next-door
Jane Roberts on the hot reality show L.A. Candy.
Now Madison's ready for her turn in the spotlight and she'll stop at
nothing to get it. Sure, she's the star of a new show, but with
backstabbing friends and suspicious family members trying to bring her
down, Madison has her work cut out for her. Plus, there's a new nice
girl in "reality" town—aspiring actress Carmen Price, the daughter of
Hollywood royalty—and she's a lot more experienced at playing the fame
game... When the camera's start rolling, whose star will shine brighter?

MY REVIEW -
LOOOOOOOOVE! This was my 4th book by Lauren Conrad, so you might say I am a fan! Her first series - LA Candy was about a reality show and what goes on behind the scenes. This is the first book in a new series which is also about a reality show called "The Fame Game" a couple of the characters are back (Madison and Gaby) along with a few new ones (Kate and Carman).
Ok - so these books will not win any literary awards! But they are so much fun to read and soooo addicting! After reading the first one, LA Candy, I knew I was hooked and would have to read everything she wrote. This one is my favorite so far. I think it is even better than the first three.
The character development is excellent. Oh my gosh - these girls are so cute, so sweet, so annoying, so mean, so backstabbing, so power and fame hungry, and so much fun. I love them and hate them at the same time. My favorite is Kate, the wannabe singer. I can just picture her with her red hair, faded jeans, sloppy tee, and sweet personality. She kinda gave me a Taylor Swift feel. Madison was the mean girl, she was the one you loved to hate, like Lindsey Lohan. Gaby is the "dumb blonde" oh my gosh, can you say Jessica Simpson? And Carman, beautiful young actress trying to make in on her without the help of her rich famous parents. Seriously, I love them all! This book even had me shedding a few tears, I know, right?
TV TO BOOK COMPARISON -
I have never seen the two shows that Lauren Conrad has been on - The Hills and Laguna Beach. But my daughter has watched a few of the shows and says that the books are just like the TV shows. She even thought the characters were very similar, hmmmm.

THE ALL-IN-ALL -
All in all these are very fun, cute, short books to read. Be warned - they are very addictive!
They are actually pretty clean. Yes, sex is mentioned but no graphic scenes, just some kissing. There might be a swear word or two, but not bad honestly. I would have let my daughter read these when she was a teen.
If you are looking for something light that will make you smile - these are the books for you.
OK I think I have to pass this on to my daughter now or she will be mad at me! Hmm I seem to remember when she made fun of me for reading them. Now she can't can't wait for the next one!
This video is Lauren doing an interview at a book signing - its cute -
This one sounds like it's cut from the cloth of real life, and that intrigues me. I would love to read something that is lighter and a little bit frothy right now. I tend to have a lot of darker books on my shelf. Wonderful review today. I am so glad that you loved this one!
ReplyDeleteI'm oddly fascinated by this gal. I should try this book and this show.
ReplyDeleteWendy!!! I hope you are okay in this weather!
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch the videos because I have to leave for work soon, but good review. I would like to borrow and read this one. I too liked the LA Candy series. Light and frothy entertainment. It's a good book to read when you just want to have fun and relax your brain. I also love Lauren Conrad, Laguna Beach and the Hills were probably tough for her and I think this is probably her way of exhaling after all those seasons of being hollywood's version of reality.
