One Part Plant - Jessica Murnane

5 STARS+++

ABOUT THE BOOK -
Wellness advocate and podcaster Jessica Murnane is the friend you never knew you had. And she's here with a cookbook to help you make a change you never thought was possible.

In One Part Plant, Jessica has a friendly request: that you eat just one meal plant-based meal each day. There's no crazy diet plan with an anxiety-inducing list of forbidden foods. Or pages filled with unattainable goals based on an eating philosophy that leaves you feeling hungry and deprived. Instead, Jessica offers you the tools to easily and deliciously make plants the star of your plate--no matter how much junk food occupies it now.

Jessica knows what it's like to have less than healthy eating habits. Just a few short years ago, her diet consisted of three major food groups: Sour Patch Kids, Diet Coke, and whatever Lean Cuisine had the most cheese. But when her endometriosis — a chronic and painful condition — left her depressed and desperate for help, she took the advice of a friend and radically overhauled her diet. Within months, her life dramatically changed — her pain started to fade and she felt like herself again.

With a unique style and playful tone, Jessica shares what she’s learned on her way to healing her body through food. She keeps it simple and, most importantly, delicious — with 100 allergy-friendly recipes like Creamy Mushroom Lasagna, Easy Vegetable Curry Bowls, Triple Berry Skillet Cobbler, and Chocolate Chunk Cookies.

Featuring her top ten pantry basics, practical advice, and colorful and bold photography, One Part Plant is an inspiring and educational guide to eating real and feeling your best.

MY THOUGHTS -
Fabulous! May I be bold enough to say maybe, possibly, the best vegetarian cook book yet. After only having this book for a week and leafing through it only once, it rose to the very top of my cook book pile where it now holds the crown as my personal favorite! I have now had this book for a few weeks and have already made at least three recipes and have so many more flagged!

Yes, the recipes are amazing and there are very few that I won't actually make.
Yes, the pictures are mouth-wateringly gorgeous and makes you want to make everything in here.
But - there is more to this fab cook book than just the recipes.
Label reading 101 - I am a label reader from waaay back. Yes I am one of those annoying shoppers that stands in front of a section literally reading every single label! That's me! Hey people - you need to know whats in your food!
Organic vs. non-organic - Like the author, I do try to buy mostly organic food. But it is nearly impossible to buy all organic all the time.
Oils - what to look for, what to buy, what to use (preferably olive, extra-virgin)
Frozen vs. fresh - I admit I am a fresh food snob, I try to buy fresh when ever possible.
And in the summer I have a very big garden that I take full advantage of. But... I do buy some frozen fruits and veggies. Its unavoidable and - its OK.
Eggs - Yes, I eat them (I'm vegetarian, not vegan) but I do always buy either farm fresh (in the summer, laying season) or organic, non GMO cage free eggs. I personally feel this is very important.

So basically the author and I agree on almost everything and should be BFF's.

Here are a couple of the recipes I made and they turned out absolutely wonderful and I would and will make them again!

If you are a vegetarian, or love making and eating good healthy food or if you are even thinking about making some changes in your diet and want to try some real good healthy food - You should definitely try this cook book! I promise it will be worth your time and money. And it just may end up being your top favorite too!

I voluntarily posted this review after receiving a copy of this book from TLC Book Tours Thank you!

Comments

  1. I'm not a vegetarian but I really appreciate an all veggie meal from time to time, and I'm always on the look out for new recipes!

Thanks for being a part of the tour.

  2. I'm not saying I eat as bad as the author did a few years ago, but I will say that I can relate to two of those chosen foods. I've recently seriously cut back on soda (except when we have pizza!), and I've found I'm not craving sugar as much. I really appreciate when I can relate to someone who's been where I've been!
