4 Stars!
ABOUT THE BOOK -
In the spring of 1800, a traveling circus arrives in town. Rees is about to attend, but sees his nemesis, Magistrate Hanson in the crowd, and leaves. On the way home he meets a party of Shaker brothers searching for a missing girl. They quickly come across her lifeless body thrown into a farmer's field.
Rees begins investigating and quickly becomes entranced by the exotic circus performers, especially the beautiful young tightrope walker.
Other murders follow. Who is the killer? One of the circus performers? One of the townspeople? Or One of the Shakers?

MY THOUGHTS -
Eighth in the series???? How did I not know about these? I would love to go back and read all of them from the beginning. This book was OK as a stand-alone, but I do wish I had more background information. What got them to where they are now? The author does do a good job of doing some catching up, but it really makes me want to read it all for my self.
Very interesting read. And of course I love reading historical fiction! I did not know that women were not allowed to go to the circus!! Geez - hurry up women's rights movement! I think that was my biggest take-away LOL that a circus would travel and come to town... only for the men!!! Blows my mind! But of course women can actually be in the circus (although they are not thought of very highly).
Anyway - besides the circus this is a nice easy going murder mystery. It did not end the way I thought it would at all! So don't even try to figure it out. This is a great one if you are looking for something a little different and if you love historical fiction/mysteries.
- Thank You!!
