After The End - Group Discussion #3

"He is quite likely the stupidest boy I have ever met." - so begins chapter 21.

Here are you questions through chapter 40 (please remember to keep your comments to those chapters so as not to give spoilers).

1. About Whit - "But all the clan elders had to have been in on the deception. He isn't any guiltier than the rest of them. They all lied, not just him."
What do you think about this? Do you think they were all in on it, or do you think they know as little as Juneau?
I am seriously wondering if maybe no one else knows and maybe they are just as clueless as Juneau, or at least maybe only a select few may know.

2. Juneau finds out Whit might be warning her with this note signing - "Your Friend Whit". Who do you think the soldier men are, and why do they want to find her?
I think the soldier men might are the government and they either want her because is just the last one left and they don't want to leave any links... or she is the "all powerful one" the most important and they need her for government use, or to study her?

3. If you needed to leave a note to warn someone in a not so obvious way - who would you write to and what would you say?
I would leave a note for my daughter and it would say -
"Don't worry about me. I am fine. I just went to McDonald's for a hamburger"
She would know right away - I never go to McDonald's, and I never eat hamburgers!

4. "No one experiences aging. No one dies, unless its an accident."
OK so whats up with this??? What is your theory so far on the Yara, and non aging etc.?
At first I thought the Yara was spiritual, but now I am thinking Science. Like The Yara is a name for a scientific experiment. Like genetic mutation of some kind??? LOL I may be way off!

5. Juneau says "Why did I feel safer in a postapocalyptic world than in this functioning, civilized world?"
In what world would you feel more comfortable?
I think I would prefer somewhere in the middle. I definitely like a more simple life with gardening, homesteading and living in a clan instead of a city. Kind of like a commune.
But I would like some of the conveniences of the modern world - iPhone, iPad, K-cup maker, and Kohls!

6. When eating Pop-tarts, Juneau says it her "desert food" -
If you were stuck on an island what foods in these categories would you choose?
(you do not have to choose wisely, just choose fun!)
* Drink
* Entree'
* Snack or dessert
* Extra
Mine would be -
drink - coffee (with cream and sugar)
entree' - pizza
snack or dessert - ice cream
extra - broccoli (I know thats a weird choice but I really love broccoli!)

7. Any other thoughts or comments on the book so far?
How are you liking it?
Are you liking the characters?
I am liking the book so far. I love the characters. I loved that they added Poe (the bird), that was a nice touch and I loved the fuss Miles had over it, LOL.
I am just wondering WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON???? I can't wait to get some real answers.

The next discussion will be next week, the 27th - which will be the wrap-up discussion. So read away - finish the book! Then you all will be asked to a review post on your blog between the 27th and 31st.

  1. 3. If you needed to leave a note to warn someone in a not so obvious way - who would you write to and what would you say?

    -I'm fine, I just went out for a jog...or something along those lines.

    *snort* I so don't do any sort of running...except in my nightmares when I'm running away from ghosts or zombies or other psychos

    4. "No one experiences aging. No one dies, unless its an accident."
    OK so whats up with this??? What is your theory so far on the Yara, and non aging etc.?
    It's starting to make sense why everyone wants what the 'clan' has. No one ages = fountain of youth = hello miracle drug to make them a fortune

    5. Juneau says "Why did I feel safer in a postapocalyptic world than in this functioning, civilized world?"
    In what world would you feel more comfortable?

    I prefer more civilized...although I wouldn't mind moving somewhere with a slower pace.

    6. When eating Pop-tarts, Juneau says it her "desert food" -

    (you do not have to choose wisely, just choose fun!)
    * Drink

    * Snack or dessert
    * Extra

    drink - Sweet Iced Tea
    entree' - pizza
    snack or dessert - CHIPS!!!
    extra - Mac n cheese :) I do love my carbs

  2. Late like usual...

    1. About Whit - "But all the clan elders had to have been in on the deception. He isn't any guiltier than the rest of them. They all lied, not just him."
    What do you think about this? Do you think they were all in on it, or do you think they know as little as Juneau?

    I do believe that all the "elders" were in on all of it just like the movie, The Village. Did any of them start off with the possibility of betrayal, probably not, but overtime, greed and power probably got to some like Whit.

    2. Juneau finds out Whit might be warning her with this note signing - "Your Friend Whit". Who do you think the soldier men are, and why do they want to find her?

    The soldier men could be like the Men in Black or some sort of government officials. Juneau is probably a very power person and they want her because of her power.

    3. If you needed to leave a note to warn someone in a not so obvious way - who would you write to and what would you say?
    I would leave a note for my daughter and it would say -

    It would be for my mom and it would say, "I'm doing okay, but I decided to stop dancing and only work." lol

    4. "No one experiences aging. No one dies, unless its an accident."
    OK so whats up with this??? What is your theory so far on the Yara, and non aging etc.?

    Hmmm...I wondered about this too when reading this part. Is the clan much older than we expected? And like Wendy said, was this some sort of science experiment?

    5. Juneau says "Why did I feel safer in a postapocalyptic world than in this functioning, civilized world?"
    In what world would you feel more comfortable?

    Of course she feels safer in her post-apocalyptic world since that's all she knew. Me, in the other hand, love technology and all the things that make our life easier. I detest camping so I can't imagine surviving in the wilderness.

    6. When eating Pop-tarts, Juneau says it her "desert food" -
    If you were stuck on an island what foods in these categories would you choose?
    (you do not have to choose wisely, just choose fun!)
    * Drink
    * Entree'
    * Snack or dessert
    * Extra
    Mine would be -
    drink - water (I could make different beverages such as tea from the leaves around me)
    entree' - chicken whatever
    snack or dessert - chocolate
    extra - beans 'cause I'm Mexican and I must have frijoles! lol

    7. Any other thoughts or comments on the book so far?
    How are you liking it?
    Are you liking the characters?

    I still feel the same way as I did when starting the book. I haven't been wowed yet. I like Juneau but Miles I'm not too fond of. My interest did peak when Whit's men arrived though. I can't wait to see what would unfurl and perhaps I'll like it more.

  3. 1. About Whit - "But all the clan elders had to have been in on the deception. He isn't any guiltier than the rest of them. They all lied, not just him."
    What do you think about this? Do you think they were all in on it, or do you think they know as little as Juneau?
    I have bounced back and forth so much on this. Sometimes I think maybe the elders are all in on it, that they were all trying to raise this next generation of gifted children, sheltering them from the rest of the world a. to have complete control of their powers and how they used them and b. to keep the world from publicizing it and abusing it. But then I think about Whit. Was this just an experiment all along for him? Is he being blackmailed? Is he forced to lead the men to Juneau or is it his own plan?

    2. Juneau finds out Whit might be warning her with this note signing - "Your Friend Whit". Who do you think the soldier men are, and why do they want to find her?
    This is part of the reason I wonder if maybe Whit is NOT in on the plan. Why would he be trying to warn her if he actually wants to catch her? Unless he just wants her to think he is trying to warn her because he can just use the yara to find her anyway?! Sorry I have no answers, only more questions. I think the men are in the government or military and were hired to catch this all powerful girl.

    3. If you needed to leave a note to warn someone in a not so obvious way - who would you write to and what would you say?
    I would leave a note for my daughter and it would say -
    Oh my gosh mom! Before I even read your answer I was going to say: It would be to my mom and would say "Mom, went out for a steak dinner, be home soon" haha do we know each other or what!

    4. "No one experiences aging. No one dies, unless its an accident."
    OK so whats up with this??? What is your theory so far on the Yara, and non aging etc.?
    I think that too, I would like to believe this is a spiritual gift but the further into the plot we go, the more I have the feeling this is a scientific experiment. I think they genetically altered a group of babies and somehow gave them special powers and maybe Juneau was the most powerful?? Maybe that's the drug they are looking for, the one they used on Juneau, the one that is keeping everyone from aging. OR!!!!! Maybe Juneau was never born!! Maybe that's why her parents are so young!! Maybe she was cloned as a child and given a fake memory of growing up in Alaska. Hmmm

    5. Juneau says "Why did I feel safer in a postapocalyptic world than in this functioning, civilized world?"
    In what world would you feel more comfortable?
    I think a postapoc. world would feel safe because it's simpler. There is not much unknown, not much left to chance. You know your little sheltered world, you know how to survive in it, you know all it's secrets... or do you?
    I think I would prefer a world in the middle. Modern Pioneering.

    6. When eating Pop-tarts, Juneau says it her "desert food" -
    If you were stuck on an island what foods in these categories would you choose?
    (you do not have to choose wisely, just choose fun!)
    * Drink
    * Entree'
    * Snack or dessert
    * Extra
    Mine would be -
    drink - coffee (with cream and sugar)
    entree' - pizza
    snack or dessert - ice cream
    extra - oreos

    7. Any other thoughts or comments on the book so far?
    How are you liking it?
    Are you liking the characters?
    I love the book, the plot is like a less non-adhd version of Lost, I just hope all the loose ends come together soon or I might go crazy with all my wondering! I love the characters, I wish Juneau and Miles would just let their guard down and work together and trust each other 100% And I love Poe!!! And that he is named Poe. :)
