3 Stars
ABOUT THE BOOK - After completing his sentence for the unintentional crime that derailed his youthful plans for fame and fortune, Levi Grant looks to start over in the town of Spencer, Texas. Spencer needs a blacksmith, a trade he learned at his father's knee, and he needs a place where no one knows his past.
Eden Spencer has sworn off men, choosing instead to devote her time to the lending library she runs in the town her father founded. When a mountain-sized stranger walks through her door and asks to borrow a book, she's reluctant to trust him. Yet as the mysteries of the town's new blacksmith unfold, Eden discovers hidden depths in him that tempt her heart.
Eden believes she's finally found a man of honor and integrity. But when the truth about Levi's prodigal past comes to light, can this tarnished hero find a way to win back the librarian's affections?

MY REVIEW - This book was just OK for me. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. The character development was good but I didn't feel particularly attached to anyone. I liked Eden, she had spunk, and guts and stood up for what she felt and wasn't afraid to speak her mind. The male character, Levi, was just OK for me. He seemed like a nice enough guy, he just seemed kind of boring. I also don't really know the reasoning behind giving him a speech impediment, other than making him more vulnerable. I thought just that he was humbled by his prison experience made him vulnerable enough. I could have done without the speech breaks etc.
I loved that most of the book took place in Eden's library that she had made for the town. Being a lover of books I thought this idea was great and original.
Overall it was a nice pleasant Christian Historical Fiction read.

  1. This sounds great, too bad I can't apply. I love the contrast between a brute and a tame librarian. And the fact that most of the book takes place in the library is so cool!
