"Love On The Line" by Deeanne Gist (Review and Giveaway)
5 STARS!!!!!
ABOUT THE BOOK -
In 1904 Texas Ranger Luke Palmer arrives in Brenham, Texas, with one
goal--to capture the gang of outlaws led by Frank Comer. Undercover as a
telephone repairman, he uses his days on the range to search, not
realizing there's another pair of eyes watching him.
Georgie Gail,
switchboard operator and birder, heads out on a birding expedition, but
instead of sighting a painted bunting, her opera glasses capture her
telephone man, armed and far away from telephone lines. Palmer is forced
to take this alluring troublemaker into his confidence and unwittingly
puts her in harm's way. The closer he comes to the gang, the further she
works her way into his heart--and into trouble. Soon it's more than
just love that's on the line.ABOUT THE AUTHOR -

Well kinda obvious by the 5 star rating - I loved this book! This was my first book by Deeanne Gist, but I am now looking into her other books. The story line just flowed so nicely for me. I found it to be very interesting, intriguing, sweet, kind of suspenseful, and cute.
I like stories that take place in the late 1800's - early 1900's, so this was perfect! I found the whole telephone operator thing very interesting and very original! The descriptions of the job and "office" were so good I really could get a good picture of what it was like. I loved when Deeanne Gist was telling about the Party Lines and everyone could hear. It really got quite humorous. At one point in the book someone was missing a cow. She called the operator - Georgie, and asked her if she would call around to see if anyone had seen her cow. Georgie then flipped all the switches waited till everyone in town answered their phone and made an announcement about the cow! I could just picture it! Fun stuff! I also like the way Georgie had to play "Voice Mail" LOL, not only did she connect people to each other, she also took messages, delivered them and found people. The whole idea was so cute.
The other part of this book that I loved was that Georgie was an avid bird watcher and protector of birds. How ironic! I, myself am an avid birdwatcher! So, for me it was also fun to read about the different birds, their mating rituals, bird calls, and nesting habits.
The character development was excellent! I loved Georgie, she was so cute and sweet but also gutsy and independent. I didn't like Luke Palmer, aka Lucious Landrom, at first, but I got to really like him once I got to know him better. I think we are suppose to be unsure of him at first. And then there's Betina - a nine year old tom boy. You can not help but to fall in love with her! I wanted to adopt her.
This book got mixed reviews on Amazon, but I loved it! It was perfect for me, I couldn't find any flaws. It was a very clean book that anyone would enjoy.

Terrific Review! For some reason whenever I think of telephone operators I can't help but to first think of the one from Green Acres. She always made me laugh so!

Oh this does sound excellent, and I haven't read a lot of books set in this time period. The bit about the telephone operator sounds like a hoot, and it's hard to imagine what living during that time must have been like. I really loved your review and am so glad you loved the book! I would also love to be entered in your giveaway, and thanks for hosting it!

She sure isn't anything like Ernestine - Lily Tomlin's character on SNL! Sounds like a nice read on a cold snowy night in MN.

LOVE ON THE LINE by Deeanee Gist is an inspirational historical fiction.I couldn't quite understand the first half of "Love On The Line",but the last half I enjoyed. I enjoyed the romance between Georgie and Luke. What a novel idea, telephone lines, switchboard operators and train robbers, while love is on the line. "Love on the Line" is a good story, with an interesting cast of characters. A good story for anyone who enjoys historical fiction,Americana,Inspirational reads.
