Whitney Houston

This is a very difficult post for me to write, especially with my eyes so full of tears.
I had a different post planned for today.
I certainly didn't plan on talking about the death of Whitney Houston!
I was so shocked to read the news. All I could do was cry. My hands were shaking so bad I could hardly hold the phone to call and tell my daughter.
She was one of my all time favorite singers. I first saw Whitney in concert in the mid 80's I think she had just put out her first album. I actually had the chance to meet her. It was in a hotel lobby I was staying at (obviously she was staying there too) and we passed by each other. I gasped and said "oh my gosh that's Whitney Houston!" She turned around and smiled at me and waved.
The time was 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The thuds seemed to be coming from the room below. The voice of a man, loud and urgent, followed.
It was only later that she learned the news: Whitney Houston, a guest in the room below hers, had died.
Cause of death: Unclear.
Time pronounced: 3:55 p.m., February 11, 2012.
Age: A mere 48.
The shock and grief from fans worldwide was immediate: Houston's pipes and presence, her grit and glamor had made her an icon.
I know she has had a very rough life, but I will always remember her as one of the most beautiful woman with THE most incredibly beautiful voice! To me she will always be an icon.

This is how I choose to remeber her -

Whitney, I will always love you!

She was so beautiful and full of life!

  1. I was numb and kind of non-reactive when I found out last night but now I'm just sad. She was so beautiful and full of life. It's so tragic when someone with so much talent allows themselves to be ravaged by drugs. Despite the fact that we don't know how she died yet, I can't imagine it being something other than drug-related.

I don't know if there will ever be a more perfect voice than hers in all of human history.

    1. Thanks for your kind words!
I am just afraid that people are going to slam her in the press (like they have been doing) about her drug problems. I would hate for people to remember her like that, instead of the beautiful woman with the Angel voice that she was!

You are right - I don't know if there will ever be a more perfect voice than hers in all of human history. Very well said!

  2. When mom called me this morning, she woke me up and I was still quite groggy when she exclaimed between sobs... "Whitney Houston died yesterday." I heard what she said, I even offered my condolences, "I'm so sorry mom. I know you loved her." Then I went back to sleep. Later, at work, everyone was talking about it and it was all over the news. I thought "Poor mom, she must be so devastated." Then on my way to mom's for dinner I popped in Whitney's greatest hits in to pay tribute, but still thinking of mom and her loss... it wasn't until I was sitting at mom's computer, warching the video "I Will Always Love You" that it hit me... Whitney Houston is dead. This beautifully exquisit woman with a flawless, effortless, power to her voice, was a part of my upbringing. As my mom's idol, I was raised to love Whitney, and rightfully so. And now she is gone. As I watched the video, the tears streaming down my face, I said goodbye to the woman who will always love us.

  3. This is such a lovely post. I was so upset when I heard and I immediately thought of her daughter. She's 18! I love how you decided to remember her. Those pictures are the images I grew up with. I remember being in 3rd grade and my mom putting on The Bodyguard soundtrack. I would sing along with my microphone and my mom would clean house and stop every once in a while to sing with me. She was so classy and such an inspiration and I know she had her problems but she will be missed.
