Surrender Bay, by Denise Hunter (Review & Giveaway)
5 Stars!!!!!
ABOUT THE BOOK -
Once childhood
friends, Samantha and Landon are now separated by distance and secrets.
Will Samantha's return to Nantucket bring her the peace she longs for?
Samantha Owens' estranged
stepfather has died, leaving her his cottage in Nantucket-a place she
fled years ago, never planning to return. As a single mom, Samantha
can't afford to pass up a financial windfall like ocean-front property.
So she travels home to fix up the house and sell it . . . never
suspecting that Landon Reed still lives two doors down.
As their long-dormant romance
begins to bud again, Samantha must face a past that separated her from
the God of her childhood. And she must tell Landon why she fled the
island in the first place-a secret that could tear them apart.
Is Landon's love really as
unconditional as he claims? And will Samantha finally realize that the
God she found all those years ago never abandoned her?
A heart-tugging tale of shattered trust, growing faith, and love that endures . . . all in a romantic seaside setting.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR -
Denise lives in Indiana with her husband Kevin and their
three sons. In 1996, Denise began her first book, a Christian
romance novel, writing while her children napped. Two years later
it was published, and she's been writing ever since. Her books
often contain a strong romantic element, and her husband Kevin
says he provides all her romantic material, but Denise insists
a good imagination helps too!

MY REVIEW -
Oh my goodness, I just loved this book! Denise Hunter has found a fan in me! This is only the second book by Denise I have read, the first being - "The Convenient Groom" which I also loved. See my review HERE.
You know the feeling you get when you start reading a book and you just know... you know you are going to love it within the first chapter? You start reading, you settle into a comfy chair and get settled into the book and you know you are in it for the duration of the night. This is one of those books! This nice little summer love story sure does pack a punch. If you think you are in for a sweet, cute, cozy love story, you are in for a surprise - heartache, abuse, abandonment... then finally love.
There were so many unanswered questions in the beginning you just had to keep reading, and reading. This book gave me goosebumps - there are so many awwww moments. Denise Hunter sure got this one right!
The character development is excellent. I loved Sam (Samantha) and really felt for her but also wanted to yell at her sometimes. I know she had a horrible past but she needed to move on, it was time. She needed to let some love in, and let some love out.
I also LOVED Landon. I really like a good male character. I always get so caught up in the female characters that it takes a really good male for me to fall in love with him. Landon was perfect in my book (or I should say Denise's book, LOL).
About the only one I did not like was Sam's daughter, Caden. She was kind of a brat. I think it must be hard to portray children in adult novels and I usually end up not liking them. Caden at least was true to age, she didn't seem older or younger than she should. I just didn't like her. I wanted to tell her - quit your whining and go out to play!
This book just had so many great parts to it, a lot of great scenes and a lot of great lines.
One of my favorite lines -
This is a nice Christian (but not "in your face" Christian), good clean (no swearing, no sex) summer read that I would very highly recommend!
THE GIVEAWAY -
Can you believe it? I am giving this book away!

"Kids are like empty glasses when they are born. It's a parent's job to fill them up before they leave home."I bought this book at the Dollar store for about $3.00, I was so excited to get it. Every once in a while they have a good book.
This is a nice Christian (but not "in your face" Christian), good clean (no swearing, no sex) summer read that I would very highly recommend!

I haven't read this series by Denise, but I've loved everything I've read by her!
ReplyDeleteThis does sound like a great read, and one that has a lot of flavor for a Christian read. Not your typical message driven book, from the sound of it. Great review today! I would love to check this one out!
