Dream Lake, by Lisa Kleypas

4.5 Stars!

ABOUT THE BOOK -
Dream Lake takes readers once again to the exquisite setting of Friday Harbor, and tells the story of Zoe Hoffman, an innkeeper who has all but given up on love. She’s a gentle, romantic soul, but has been so hurt in the past that she dare not trust her heart with anyone. Especially not Alex Nolan. Alex is the most haunted of all the Nolan brothers. He drinks to keep his demons at bay and not only has he given up on love, he has never, ever believed in it. Zoe and Alex are oil and water, fire and ice, sunshine and shadow. But sometimes, it takes only a glimmer of light to chase away the dark. Dream Lake is classic Lisa Kleypas: romantic, powerful, emotional, and magical.

MY REVIEW -
First of all - Is that not the most gorgeous cover you have ever seen? You should see it on my nook! It just glows! This book is about so much more than it tells in the description. Right from the very first sentence you know there is a ghost in the story -  "The ghost tried many times to leave the house, but it was impossible.". Oooooo I love a good ghost story! Especially one that is done right, and this one was.

Lisa did a great job of blending past and present, and ghost and living. This story was really interesting. There was a lot of substance here, not just your typical romance. The story behind the ghost - why he was there, how he died, who was the love of his life and even who he was, was just as interesting as the the story of Alex and Zoe. It was like getting two books in one.

The character development again was fantastic, in usual Lisa Kleypas style. Alex started out a jerk but you knew that from the previous book, you wanted to hate him but just couldn't. Zoe was wonderful, lovely, kind, and surprisingly was able to put her heart out there.

Another thing I really loved about this book was that much of it took place at the same time as the previous book "Rainshadow Road". So you went back to a lot of the same happenings only told in Alex's point of view or Zoe's. This was great! I don't think I have ever read a series like this!

There were quite a few twists and turns that kept you guessing. And you certainly know what and who the next book will be about! A little shocker there!

Some great lines from the book -
"You know that thing women do. The happy-crying thing. Or the sad-mad thing. I don't get how anyone can have more than one feeling at a time. Its like trying to simultaneously watch TVs on different channels."

"Justine says if you never find Mr. Right, you should have as much fun as possible with a lot of Mr. Wrongs."

"It was an enormous, weird-looking cat, with a flat face and enough fur to create at least three more of itself." - Hahaha loved this one, reminded me of  my cat!

THE ALL-IN-ALL -
All in all this was a wonderful fun, romantic, very entertaining, ghost story romance book, LOL well that's what it was!  Warning - there are a few semi-graphic sex scenes, and a bit of swearing. In my opinion - not for younger readers.

I bought this one from B&N for my nook.

Next one in the series - Crystal Cove

  2. What a cool premise for the book, and the fact that it has a ghost is an added attractant to me. This was a great review, and I love stories that get it right down to the very last sentence. I am so glad to hear that you loved this one!
