Forgive My Fins, by Tera Lynn Childs

3 Stars (but a good 3 stars!)
ABOUT THE BOOK -
Lily Sanderson has a secret, and it's not that she has a huge crush on gorgeous swimming god Brody Bennett, who makes her heart beat flipper-fast. Unrequited love is hard enough when you're a normal teenage girl, but when you're half human, half mermaid, like Lily, there's no such thing as a simple crush.

Lily's mermaid identity is a secret that can't get out, since she's not just any mermaid—she's a Thalassinian princess. When Lily found out three years ago that her mother was actually a human, she finally realized why she didn't feel quite at home in Thalassinia, and she's been living on land and going to Seaview High School ever since, hoping to find where she truly belongs. Sure, land has its problems—like her obnoxious biker-boy neighbor, Quince Fletcher—but it has that one major perk: Brody. The problem is, mermaids aren't really the casual dating type—the instant they "bond," it's for life.

When Lily's attempt to win Brody's love leads to a tsunami-sized case of mistaken identity, she is in for a tidal wave of relationship drama, and she finds out, quick as a tailfin flick, that happily ever after never sails quite as smoothly as you planned.

MY REVIEW -
This was a real cute book. You have to keep in mind that this is a fairytale type fantasy book. So you can't read it thinking this isn't real, this would never happen. Because it wouldn't! Its about a mermaid! At first I thought it was kind of corny and a few things felt over done or questionable. But once I reminded myself that this was not suppose to feel real or even close then I started to enjoy it more.
The 2 things that bothered me the most was the way her friends just accepted the fact that she was a mermaid - they just kind of said "Oh, ok, wow cool."  they weren't even surprised or freaked out about it. If my best friend told me she was a mermaid, first - I wouldn't believe it! I would think she was joking or teasing me. Then I would be like ok prove it to me! But her friends just said "Oh really? OK"
The other thing that bothered me was that the parents (well basically, they didn't exist except for Lily's) but that they were all ok with their kids being out all night or even gone for the whole weekend! Once again I had to tell myself - this is fantasy, its ok.

The character development was pretty good. I did like Lily a lot, she was cute and spunky and very teenage like. And I liked that the author didn't make her seem too old. That always bugs me in a book, when the characters do not seem their age. I really liked Quince, he was my favorite. The way he fully supported her and tried to help her no matter what. But his parents were the ones who didn't question where he was when he went to her world for the weekend, LOL.

THE ALL-IN-ALL -
All in all this was a very cute story that kept  me interest and kept me wanting to read more. This is a very good book for younger readers - no sex no swearing, just a couple kissing scenes.
I did not plan on reading the next book in the series till I read the last chapter - now I have to read the next book!

This book was an e-book gifted to me by friend Jen from At Random  she gave it to me just for my "Life's a beach" theme - Thanks Jen!

  1. Not sure this is for me, but I know a few younger readers who would love this book. Thanks for the honest opinions. A little mermaid fantasy goes a long way for me!
