Beautiful Creatures - Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl (4 stars!)
Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

This is like "Hex Hall" meets "Discovery of Witches". It has the seriousness and historical elements like DOW but still has all the teen qualities like Hex Hall. I really liked this book! It is huge! Over 500 pages, but it actually read quite fast. I finished it in 3 days. Now that it is turned into a movie I really wanted to read the book before watching the movie. I think this is a 4 book series and I will be reading all of them!

Bliss (The Bliss Bakery series) - Kathryn Littlewood (4 stars!)
Rosemary Bliss’s family has a secret. It’s the Bliss Cookery Booke—an ancient, leather-bound volume of enchanted recipes like Stone Sleep Snickerdoodles and Singing Gingersnaps. Rose and her siblings are supposed to keep the Cookery Booke under lock and whisk-shaped key while their parents are out of town, but then a mysterious stranger shows up. “Aunt” Lily rides a motorcycle, wears purple sequins, and whips up exotic (but delicious) dishes for dinner. Soon boring, nonmagical recipes feel like life before Aunt Lily—a lot less fun.

This was such a cute book! I really liked it. I think this is considered a middle school book. But it sure kept my attention. It was so full of magic. It was so fun and quirky, but also touching. The character development was great! Any young kid (or old) will love this! I can't wait to read the next one in the series.
