School Spirits - Rachel Hawkins

5 Stars!!!!!

ABOUT THE BOOK -
Fifteen-year-old Izzy Brannick was trained to fight monsters. For centuries, her family has hunted magical creatures. But when Izzy’s older sister vanishes without a trace while on a job, Izzy's mom decides they need to take a break.

Izzy and her mom move to a new town, but they soon discover it’s not as normal as it appears. A series of hauntings has been plaguing the local high school, and Izzy is determined to prove her worth and investigate. But assuming the guise of an average teenager is easier said than done. For a tough girl who's always been on her own, it’s strange to suddenly make friends and maybe even have a crush.
Can Izzy trust her new friends to help find the secret behind the hauntings before more people get hurt?

Rachel Hawkins' delightful spin-off brings the same wit and charm as the New York Times best-selling Hex Hall series. Get ready for more magic, mystery and romance!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR -

Rachel Hawkins was a high school English teacher before becoming a full-time writer. She lives with her family in Alabama. To the best of her knowledge, Rachel is not a witch, though some of her former students may disagree.

MY REVIEW -
This one's for all you Hex Hall lovers!!!!! You know when you read a really great series that you absolutely fall in love with and you wish the author would write more? Then one day you find out she is writing more... then as if it could get any better - that new book shows up on a list of review books??? Do you know that feeling? It is the feeling that makes you squeal out load with joy!

What a delight these books are to read, every single one of them. If you haven't read the Hex Hall series - well you should! This is being called a "spin-off series" It does mention a few people that were in the first book. But its totally OK if you start reading this series without reading the first. It will still make sense to you.

Oh I just love these books! I read this in almost one sitting, I could not put it down. It was so cute, fun, and magical. There is a wonderful cast of characters with excellent character development. Rachel Hawkins is just a mastermind when it comes to teenage magic! There is also lots of action to keep it interesting and lots of teenage angst and of course a little teenage love (nothing graphic, just a kiss).
"That was as far as mom had gotten in her facts of life talk a few years back: 'Don't let boys touch you in the bathing suit zone.' Then the warlock she and Finn had been chasing chose that moment to leap onto the hood of our car, and the rest of her talk had gone unfinished."

"Ouiji boards don't work."
Dex rocked back on his heels, still grinning. "That a fact?"
"I'm just saying, I don't think that anything made by Milton Bradley is much good for contacting the dark side, that's all."
I very highly recommend this book and the first series if you like fun quirky paranormal or if you are looking for a fun series for a younger person on your list.
