The Shade of the Moon (book 4 - The Last Survivors) - Susan Beth Pfeffer

5 Stars!

ABOUT THE BOOK -
The eagerly awaited addition to the series begun with the New York Times best-seller Life As We Knew It, in which a meteor knocks the moon off its orbit and the world changes forever. It's been more than two years since Jon Evans and his family left Pennsylvania, hoping to find a safe place to live, yet Jon remains haunted by the deaths of those he loved. His prowess on a soccer field has guaranteed him a home in a well-protected enclave. But Jon is painfully aware that a missed goal, a careless word, even falling in love, can put his life and the lives of his mother, his sister Miranda, and her husband, Alex, in jeopardy. Can Jon risk doing what is right in a world gone so terribly wrong?

MY REVIEW -
Nooooooo, I don't want this series to end! Please someone tell me she is writing a 5th book!
I couldn't give this book anything less than 5 stars. I was so into reading this book it drove me crazy at times! As it was, I did end up finishing it in a 35 hr. period. It is one of those books (series) that just gets under your skin.

This book, as in all the others in the series, is sad sad sad. Well "post apocalyptic" books are suppose to be sad and horrible and suspenseful, right? Well this is all of those at its best. Susan does not go easy on us as readers, she does not paint us a pretty picture. This is real, so real that you want to hate the main character... until you remember that he is only a teenage boy trying to survive as best he can under the most horrific situations. And in the end, I think he did alright.

The character development is so good in this whole series that every time something bad happened or someone died I would cry out (and ferociously text my friend Jen, who posted her review - HERE). Like I said, Susan does not paint a pretty picture, people die, you know that's gonna happen. When it does, you are still not prepared because you have hoped for the best for all these people that you have invested so much time in.

This is one of the best series I have read. It is so real it will certainly get you thinking - What would I do? Would I have done as well? Would I have died? This could never happen, right? Or could it?
Some day I would like to read the whole series all over again.

Here are a couple quotes -
"Its just one day," John said. "Then its back to normal"
"There's no normal anymore," Sarah replied. "Normal got lost four years ago. It's never coming back."

"It's natural for girls to want to have children now, Mom said. Like the baby boom after World War Two. Offering life, after so much death."
"But the 1950's were a time of prosperity," Alex pointed out "Now we don't know one day to the next if there'll be enough food to survive."
My friend Jen gave me this book, she got it at BEA! Thanks Jen.
