Cassie Scot: ParaNormal Detective, by Christine Amsden

3 Stars

ABOUT THE BOOK -
Cassie Scot is the ungifted daughter of powerful sorcerers, born between worlds but belonging to neither. At 21, all she wants is to find a place for herself, but earning a living as a private investigator in the shadow of her family's reputation isn't easy. When she is pulled into a paranormal investigation, and tempted by a powerful and handsome sorcerer, she will have to decide where she truly belongs.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR -
Award-winning author Christine Amsden has written stories since she was eight, always with a touch of the strange or unusual. She became a "serious" writer in 2003, after attending a boot camp with Orson Scott Card. She finished Touch of Fate shortly afterward, then penned The Immortality Virus, which won two awards. Expect many more titles by this up-and-coming author.

MY REVIEW -
This book was pretty good. It was fun to read and I did really get into the characters, they were all very likable. While this was not the best paranormal I have ever read, it was definitely worth the read.
This is what I would call a lighter Vampire story, not dark and scary but fun and quirky. This was not real feeling, because it is not meant to be.  I have to admit, I do like these kind of Vampire books better, usually (maybe a few exceptions - one being "Nightlife").
And... No icky Vampire sex! Yay, thank you Christine! This is a pretty clean book actually.
This story was a good escape from the crazy reality of life. - So if that is the kind of book you are looking for this would be perfect.

This is the first book I have read by Christine and I do think I would read another.

There are tons of cute lines! But I will try to limit myself -
"I hadn't brought my Kindle because I had expected this to be a twenty minute job, so I pulled out my cell phone and sent random text messages to my friends." I just thought this was so funny!

"The entire family was gathered in the kitchen, where mom was brewing some kind of potion in a cauldron on the stove." LOL

"The Vampire must have killed me, but as I slowly blinked back into awareness, I was struck by how painful death felt. People always describe it as a release from pain, an end to normal, human suffering, and yet there I lay, weak, nauseated, and with a throbbing in my head that made it difficult to think...
..."Am I alive?" my voice creaking.

Thank you I. O. Book Tours for sending me this e-book to read and review!

  1. Thanks so much for hosting! And LOL about the vampires. Actually, I don't do much in the way of supernatural creatures in this series at all. I mostly started with them in this book because it was something I thought readers could sink their teeth into while I was busy introducing Cassie, and because I wanted to protest the recent vampire romance trend. :)

    1. I did like it, it was cute!

I hate Vampire books that are nothing but sex, I mean seriously, are they like that in real life?... well you know what I mean.
I see that you have a second Cassie book out and was asked to review it but I am booked thru Dec.!
I will have to take a peek at some of your others.

Thanks for taking the time to write to me!

    2. Secrets and Lies is only out in ebook right now, it's official release isn't until next month and I'm touring it through February, so if your TBR pile gets a little more reasonable, there's still plenty of time to weigh in! But I know how tough it is to find time to read. I'm *gasp* on a reading hiatus right now. I've just gotten overloaded. No more until 2014, I've decided. (Except for editing... I don't have a choice there.)

      Thanks again.

So maybe I will contact them and see if I can review it in Jan.
