Fun Friday! Thanksgiving edition.
You might ask - "But aren't you a vegetarian?" Well yes I am, but...
I call myself a "pseudo vegetarian" I do eat turkey at Thanksgiving, and I do enjoy a chicken BBQ now and then, and I eat fish on a regular basis. But that's about it. I do not eat red meat at all, ever. And I try not to eat too much turkey or chicken regularly.
That being said - I love Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is a big holiday for my family. We make a whole three day event of it!
On Wed. I cook and bake and prep all day, when the daughter was young she would do it with me.
On Thurs. morning bright and early we start getting the festivities ready.
My mom-in-law and I take turns hosting (this year its her turn, so it will be at her house) so I will get everything ready to take.
Who ever hosts does the Main items - turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, and stuffing.
The non-hosts (including my married daughter now!) share the other items.
This year I am taking -
*2 pies - one being pumpkin (from a real pumpkin not canned), and the other is yet to be determined (perhaps apple or blueberry), and I decided to make these "Frosted Espresso Cheesecake Bars" I found in this months Vegetarian Times mag.
*Baked Sweet potatoes with brown sugar and pecans
*Fruit salad
*Wine (from one of the local wineries of course).
The daughter is taking -
Squash (real squash, not frozen)
2 different kinds of breads
We will hang out and eat all day and hang out some more.
Then on Friday... wait for it...
BLACK FRIDAY!!!!!!! Shopping!!!!!! Yes!
Yes, I do go shopping on Black Friday! I love it!
I don't know, I guess I feed off the craziness. I look forward to it every year.
No, I do not get up and go in the middle of the night! I go at a normal hour like 9:00am.
Sometimes I buy a lot of stuff and sometimes I don't. Its just the fun of it.
What do you guys do for Thanksgiving?
Do you celebrate? or not?
With family? Do you go away?
Stay tuned for next week - we will talk about our favorite Thanksgiving foods!
You go girl! I want a Black Friday update of all you buy. :)
ReplyDeleteI think it's awesome that you cheat from time to time. I'm sure it keeps you from feeling burnt out on not eating meat. Sounds smart to me.
Oh my goodness! That picture on how to chain-saw a turkey made me cry with laughter for some reason.
ReplyDeleteYou're one interesting vegetarian. It almost sounds like me when I go on a diet: I don't eat junk food unless it's French fries, chocolate chip cookies, etc...
And to answer your question: yes, I do celebrate Thanksgiving. Our meal takes place by noon that way our other family members can hit up their in-laws by night. We usually only have one turkey but my mom decide to buy three because they were on sale. That's a lot of turkey!
