Speed Reviewing (The Hanging Tree - by Michael Phillip Cash and The Hobbes Family & Water - by Dan O'Brien)

4 Stars! - The Hanging Tree - Michael Phillip Cash

ABOUT THE BOOK - Seventeen year old Arielle is at a crossroads in her life. Disenchanted with her father, she is testing the boundaries of his trust by dating someone he does not approve. Under the moonlit sky in Long Island, Arielle and her boyfriend meet beneath the infamous hanging tree. The couple's destiny is rooted to the five spirits in the tree whose lives and deaths are determined by an ancient curse. Will her future be determined by the past or will Arielle's choices alter the course of her life?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR - Michael Phillip Cash 's first book Brood X- A Firsthand Account of the Great Cicada Invasion is presently under consideration for a film adaptation. His well received second novel, Stillwell- A Haunting on Long Island, has stayed on the top of Amazon's "100 Best Seller" in it's genre since its release earlier this year. He is currently working on another ghost story.

MY REVIEW - This story was very cleverly done! First I love ghost stories, and second I love books about witches - this had both! I liked the mix of historical with modern times. This was a fun, quick and interesting read. Even though short (about 90 pages) there was still great character development.

5 Stars! - The Hobbes Family - Dan O'Brien

ABOUT THE BOOK -
The world had ended abruptly and without warning. How will a family navigate a world that seems bent on destroying them? Follow them in this exciting new serial adventure.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR -
"I am an editor, writer, and screenwriter. I currently attend a California university and am pursuing a graduate degree in psychology. I have written over 10 novels, several screenplays, and am working on a graphic novel. A philosopher and martial artist, my days are filled with writing and training."

MY REVIEW - This is an amazingly good book for being so short. I love the way it was written, very creative! It was fun, sad, quick and very interesting! I also loved the ending. This is an author to watch out for.

4 Stars! - Water - Dan O'Brien

ABOUT THE BOOK - The next installment in the B-Sides series follows a father and son living out a quiet life in northern Arizona. A strange occurrence at the border, and a series of events that turns the world upside down, plunges society into a spiral from which it might not be able to recover. Having to flee from their home with a band of unlikely friends in tow, the open road beckons.
Can they survive?

MY REVIEW - Another good one from Dan O'Brien. Again very creative. This one is more what you would expect from a post apocalyptic book. It was a fun and quick read. And, again with a great ending!
I will leave you with a quote - "It seems like life has changed dramatically, so quickly. A disaster, a catastrophe boiling the world down to its bare ingredients."
