"Between Boyfriends" & "Between the Sheets" - Sarka-Jonae Miller

4 Stars

At first glance, twenty-one-year-old Jan Weston has it all: a gorgeous boyfriend, fun friends, and wealthy parents who take care of all those pesky credit card bills. Then her boyfriend dumps her, her friendships fall apart, and her parents cut her off. Suddenly without money, without a man, and without a plan, it's time for Jan to grow up.

Determined to get her life back on track, Jan decides it's time to make it on her own. Can she find her way as a single lady in San Diego? Can she fix her friendships, her job prospects, and her hair? And can she keep her vow that she'll never date again, even after she meets a guy who just might be perfect for her?

BETWEEN BOYFRIENDS is a sexy, hilarious story of living life, finding love, and growing up... but not necessarily in that order.

This was sooo much better than I thought it was going to be. When I started reading this book I thought I was going to hate Jan, the main character. She was shallow, selfish, a spoiled brat and... well basically a tramp. But she was was also kind of cute and became likeable, in an annoying puppy kind of way. LOL She did admit after her last break-up that her life needed some changes.
So the book starts out with trampy spoiled Jan and ends up with a much nicer, well rounded young woman. I ended up really liking her. The character development is great as you get to know Jan and her girlfriends (some of them I like and some I don't) you are also introduced to Jan's very dysfunctional family... no wonder the girl is a mess.
This story is not your basic trashy romance, there is some real substance here! Yes it is fun, sexy, there is a bit of swearing but there is also some real heart warming moments here! We watch Jan literally grow up in this book.
4.5 Stars!

It's been three years since 25-year-old Jan Weston swore off men, and her resolve isn't what it used to be. When a family emergency diverts her travel companion to LA, a fun semester abroad in Bangkok turns into a lonely trip for one. Although she's supposed to be studying international business at Thammasat University along with Thai massage at the famous Wat Pho, Jan finds herself studying her teacher, especially his cute butt.

But she isn't just hot for teacher. Jan also meets an athletic Italian ready to show her a good time and an artistic Thai man who says all the right things. Can she resist the allure of dating abroad? Could she even choose which of the three she wants between the sheets? And if she does give in, can what happens in Bangkok stay in Bangkok?

As Jan struggles to finish her education amidst so many distractions, she must also deal with the loss of a friend, a deep betrayal, and news of a death in the family that could lead to an overdue reconciliation. Between The Sheets is a sensual story of making mistakes, overcoming obstacles, and finding love in the strangest of places.

Bravo! Loved it! This story takes right off a few years where the the last book ended. Jan has decided to study abroad in Thailand. I found this book very interesting. It is laced with Thai history and descriptions of the country so I really felt like I took a trip. I had never read a book about Thailand before or massage for that matter, and was all very interesting!

Again the character development is great as we fallow Jan while meeting some new friends and are reunited with some old ones. This story is a sweet, funny Chick-lit but also very heart warming as well. In this story we see a different Jan, one who is more mature, wiser and more serious. She wants a better life for herself and is taking it seriously, I give her real props for that.
Jan is a very believable and likeable character. One that you will be sure to fall in love with.

I asked Sárka-Jonae, the author, if there will be a third book in the series (she assured me there will be!) because I am addicted! I need to find out how Jan's life turns out, does she ever find true love?

Here are a few quotes -
"Jan watched tuk tuks flying by and got nervous every time one made a fast turn. They looked like three-wheeled death traps in bright colors to attract unsuspecting victims."

"She risked life and limb to dash across the street, quickly learning that pedestrians do not have the right of way in Thailand, and barely made it to the other side. She felt like Frogger." Ha!
And talking about how awesome the coffe is in Thailand -
"Oh my God!"
"Do you love it?"
A wave of pleasure originated in her taste buds and traveled down to her throat, growing in intensity. "This is better than... better than..."
"Yes. I have never in my life thought coffee could be better than Starbucks, but this is so good I forgot Starbucks' name" LOL love it.
My only complaint - As beautiful as these book covers are - they are also very deceiving. To me anyway these books are so much better than the covers make them seem. If I had come across these books in the bookstore I would never have picked them up. They just look like mindless romances and they are so not! They are so much more than that!

Many thanks to Sárka-Jonae for sending me these e-books to read and review!
