Sight For Sore Eyes - Joan Leacott

3.5 Stars

ABOUT THE BOOK -
Emma Finn once dreamed of being a photographer, capturing exotic landscapes and poignant vistas. Then repeated tragedies tore her life apart. All she craves now is stability—safe, reliable, boring.

Ophthalmologist Asher Stockdale left big city life when his ex-wife took his young son away. When he met Emma, he pictured her as the centre of his new life in Clarence Bay. So why is he encouraging her to resurrect her old dream and go gallivanting around the globe? Dare he ask her to stay?

Should she go? Whichever choice Emma makes, she’s bound to regret.

Carpenter ants, a rescued Pirate, and a pair of scheming seniors help Emma and Asher to see what really lies before their eyes.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR -
Joan Leacott is skilled in many arts—sewing, knitting crochet, cross-stitch, painting, and piano. The skill favored by her husband and son is cooking, especially pumpkin pie.

She spends her winters in Toronto, Canada attending piano classes, melting in the hot yoga studio, and writing.

Her summers are spent on the shores of Georgian Bay relaxing on the deck with a romance novel and a glass of wine. After she's done her laps in the bay, she settles down to write more multi-generational stories of people living and loving in today’s world.

MY REVIEW -
Well this was not a bad little romance. While I did not love it, I did enjoy it. The beginning was very slow for me, but it did get increasingly better as the story went on. Even though the story was not the best for me - I did manage to find a diamond among it! There was a sub-story going on. One of two older people - Jean and Horace. Now this story, I loved! This is the plot that pulled it through for me.

With the main plot - I didn't really care for either character. I didn't dislike them, just could get a feel for them. And Asher's son did not thrill me at all.  He just didn't seem like a real kid to me.

But like I said, the story did get better and I never once felt like I wanted to quit reading.  So all-in-all a pretty good romance. Oh and caution - *there is a graphic sex scene in the middle of the book. But only that one.

There was this one set of lines that I really liked (and of course its from Jean) -
"Do you miss a man in your life? The unexpected question startled Jean into the truth.
"Yes, I do. I miss the intimacy." She paused to chuckle at the expression on Emma's face.
"You can stop with the grimacing young lady. Just because we're old doesn't mean we're sexless. But, the intimacy I was referring to was chatting over wine at the end of a meal, tea in the afternoon, a pat on the bum, kisses in the kitchen, countless other things that happen between two people who love each other."
