Comfort of Fences - Stacy Overman Morrison

5 Stars!

ABOUT THE BOOK -
Comfort of Fences explores the unconditional love between a trio of women: Ruth, the matriarch and builder of boundaries; Denise, her special-needs adult daughter with powerful secrets of her own; and Georgia, Ruth’s best friend and source of strength and practicality. The dynamics of their relationships expose the ironies that the people we love the most can also be the people we most underestimate and that the strongest of loves has nothing to do with romance.

MY REVIEW -
Oh my goodness this book is amazing in so many ways. This story brings out so many emotions. I don't think I have ever cried during the first paragraph of a book before. This story takes you from  very sad to  hilarious in 60 seconds flat. I loved the author's writing style. It was so real, the characters and story seemed to jump off the page and enter your livingroom.

This story goes back in time so you get to know the two main characters, how they met, grew to be such good friends, and how they got to where they are today. I didn't think I was going to  like this part, but I ended up loving it just as much.

One of the things I loved about this book, of course, was they way the chapters took turns between the daughter's and mother's point of view. I love it when books do this. You really get to know the characters so much better.

Speaking of characters - This book had excellent character development, probably some of the best I have read. But you almost want to dislike Ruth and Georgia for being so outspoken and almost mean at times, but instead you end up falling in love with them. The two older women in this book are very feisty and snarky! This is probably the only book I have read that could turn dying of cancer into a snarkfest and still be tasteful.

I enjoyed reading every single minute of this book!

Here's a few lines for you -
"I opened the freezer door and stuck my head inside. Georgia came up behind me while I worshiped the miracle or Frigidaire.
"You're gonna get frostbite," she laughed.
"If only I could be so lucky! I do not remember ever being this hot.."
"Probably because you haven't. El Passo and Death Valley are at least first cousins. Then put being pregnant up there with it and you're standing next to the gates of Hell."
"No, this is past the gates. I'm into one of the inner circles," I joked back with my head still encased in the cool air.
"Well, you better say a fond adieu because you're fixing to melt all out ice. Then we'll be in Hell for sure.
