A Kitchen in France:
A Year of Cooking in My Farmhouse
By Mimi Thorisson
4 Stars

ABOUT THE BOOK -
When Mimi Thorisson and her family moved from Paris to a small town in out-of-the-way Médoc, she did not quite know what was in store for them. She found wonderful ingredients—from local farmers and the neighboring woods—and, most important, time to cook. Her cookbook chronicles the family’s seasonal meals and life in an old farmhouse, all photographed by her husband, Oddur. Mimi’s convivial recipes—such as Roast Chicken with Herbs and Crème Fraîche, Cèpe and Parsley Tartlets, Winter Vegetable Cocotte, Apple Tart with Orange Flower Water, and Salted Butter Crème Caramel—will bring the warmth of rural France into your home.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR -
MIMI THORISSON is the author of Manger, a blog devoted to French cooking that was named Saveur’s Best Regional Food Blog in April 2013. After a career in television and having lived in Hong Kong, Singapore, London, Reykjavik, and Paris, she settled with her photographer husband, their five young children, her two older stepchildren, and the family’s fourteen dogs in a farmhouse in Médoc. She is the star of the cooking shows La Table de Mimi and the upcoming Les Desserts de Mimi, both on Canal and in France.

MY THOUGHTS -
What a GORGEOUS cookbook! First, its huge! The pictures are amazing and there so many, which I love for a cookbook. But the only thing bad I can say is that there is not a whole lot in here that I would actually make. Maybe some of the desserts, which sound amazing., But the actual food dishes are not your average dinner fare. It is definitely French cuisine.
All that aside - It is a very fun book to look through and dream, and would make a great gift for a real cook!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR -
Olwen Woodier grew up on a working farm in Cheshire, England, and what she remembers best is being in the kitchen with her mother, making bread and jams.
She now lives on a working farm of another sort outside Leesburg, where her husband, Richard Busch, makes pottery and she gardens, cooks (for gangs of family and friends coming in and out) and writes about cooking.

MY THOUGHTS -
A-MAZ-ING!!!!! One of the best cookbooks I have seen. Like who doesn't like apples right? Apple pie, apple sauce, apple dumplings, is your mouth watering yet? I seriously think I would make every single recipe in this book, that's how good it is!
All the recipes are very practical, the kind that an everyday family would use and eat.
I also love that it takes you through the preservation process (canning, dehydrating, etc.) because I want to do this this fall. I am really looking forward to using some of these recipes. I am very excited about this book! Can you tell?
She has other books as well - Corn, Peaches (which happens to be my favorite fruit!) So I will have to check these out sometime.
A huge two thumbs up on this one!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR -
Heather Thomas is a cookbook writer, editor, and a contributor to magazines on both sides of the Atlantic. She has lived in the U.S. as well as Europe and has traveled extensively, eating her way around the world.

MY THOUGHTS -
All in all this is a pretty good cookbook. There is not anything earth moving here, or very original, but I do like the idea of breaking up the recipes in to 100, 200, and 300 calories. And there are a lot of very useable recipes in here. But seriously if you could make a meal for 100 calories why would you even look at the 300 ones?
The Chunky Minestrone sounds real good, I might try that one! I love Minestrone soup, probably my favorite!
If you are a vegetarian (which I am) this is a great book for you, there are lots of veggie and fruit recipes in here.
My review version did not have very many pictures, just a few. The ones it did have were very nice,. I just wish there more.
