Silent Cry - Dorothy J. Newton

5 Stars!

ABOUT THE BOOK -
Raised near New Orleans as one of six children, Dorothy Newton was surrounded by abuse and poverty as she grew up. But she became the first in her family to graduate from college and moved out of poverty. She then began to live out her dreams in Dallas of a better home and life when she married celebrity superstar football player Nate Newton. She had gone from poverty to the pinnacle of success. She was married to a handsome, successful, famous professional athlete, who was a three time Super Bowl Champion and six time Pro-Bowler for the Dallas Cowboys.
But all that glittered was not gold.
Before long the relationship turned abusive. She found herself living in the world she thought she had escaped in her years growing up. The world did not see her suffering behind closed doors—she was betrayed, treated abusively, threatened continually. Dorothy was trapped with no one to talk to and nowhere to run. In this book Dorothy shares her experiences of pain, loss, survival, hope, recovery, and victory. A gripping story throughout, A Silent Cry is a testament to Dorothy’s will to live and the peace that comes with hope in the God who sees and hears your tears—even when no one else does.

MY THOUGHTS -
A very inspiring, wonderful true story! I left an abusive husband 27 years ago. So I could really relate to her story, but everyone can relate to this! It is not just a story about abuse, its a story about survival, strength, being a woman, Trust and faith in God, and having the courage to walk away and change your life! I truly admire her for what she was able to do! Dorothy is a wonderful, beautiful person - I would love to meet her someday!
And I also understand what she did was for her children. That is why I left. It was only after my daughter was born and it became clear that the abuse would continue on to her that I left.

But also... I am an avid football fan! Go Steelers! So I could also relate to that part of the story as well and I do remember her husband playing for the Cowboys. Ironically enough - my ex-husband was a Cowboys fan!

This book has gotten amazing review from Amazon - 93% are 5 stars! It is very well written, heart warming, sad, and inspiring and at times kept you on the edge of your seat. I love the way that no matter what happened she always turned back to God, she always prayed. And in the end, she forgave Nate, I haven't gotten to that point yet.

I highly recommend this book especially if you have ever been in an abusive relationship or know someone who has.

    1. Surprisingly enough I think I only teared up maybe once. It isn't really a tear-jerker, but a story of strength.
