Plan Bea - Hilary Grossman

4 Stars!

ABOUT THE BOOK -
Could falling in love allow a cold, stubborn, and selfish woman to open her heart back up to her family?

Beatrice Buchanan has spent more years than she can remember distancing herself from everyone close to her. She has no relationship with her grandchildren and the only time she speaks to her daughter is during her weekly fifteen-minute commute to the nail salon. When Bea meets Walter on a cruise she realizes there may be more to life than designer clothes and impressing the ladies at her country club.

We live our entire lives thinking we know those closest to us. But do we ever really?

On the outside, Annabel O'Conner has it all - the perfect husband, two adorable children, and an amazing job. The only thing missing is her mother's love. When Bea begs her daughter to help plan her wedding, Annabel reluctantly agrees. Little does she know the impact of her decision or the surprise that is in store for her!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR -
By day, Hilary Grossman works in the booze biz. By night she hangs out with her "characters." She has an unhealthy addiction to denim and high heel shoes. She's been known to walk into walls and fall up stairs. She only eats spicy foods and is obsessed with her cat, Lucy. She loves to find humor in everyday life. She likens life to a game of dodge ball - she tries to keep many balls in the air before they smack her in the face. She lives on the beach in Long Island.

MY THOUGHTS -
Oh my gosh, I had quite the little cry-fest with this one! I didn't expect that. This was a nice surprise for me. I thought this was just going to be a chick-lit book (and nothing wrong with that!!! I love chick-lit!) but it was so much more!

This book was so full of emotion, good and bad. It really had two parts to it, the first half was more chick-lit (funny, snarky, and angsty) and the second half was sad and much more heartfelt. Even though I do love chick-lit, it was the second half that really won me over.

Not only does Annabel learn more about her mother in this story, but she also learns more about herself as well.

You know something happened to her brother years ago, but you are kept in the dark. Finally about half way through you find out what happened. It was VERY sad , yes tears were shed! But it was very well written and sadly, I could visualize everything. It was as though I was right there with them experiencing the whole horrific scene. And I loved the parts where Annabel sat down and had those heart-to-hearts with her mother - so touching and well done! I think we all need to have those with our mothers - Oh the things we could learn if we would only listen.

This is a book about relationships. The relationship between Annabel and her husband and between Annabel and her mother. If this one doesn't have you laughing and crying then I don't know what will!
