Bullet in the Blue Sky - Bill Larkin (GIVEAWAY!)

4.5 Stars!

ABOUT THE BOOK -
In the chaotic aftermath of a massive earthquake that leveled much of the Los Angeles region, a LAPD deputy chief sends an elite team of detectives on a rescue mission. They are ordered to set aside all law enforcement duties, to ignore the destruction and to focus on one task: Find LAPD Detective Gavin Shaw, who disappeared just before the earthquake.

Kevin “Schmitty” Schmidt of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department joins five others on the rescue team. With rioting, looting, attacks and homicides rampant in the streets, the six cops have to defend themselves while chasing down leads on the whereabouts of Shaw. The mission takes them through the dizzying war zone and the more they encounter, the more they wonder why they are searching for one man in these extreme circumstances. Why is this man so important to the deputy chief, and why now?

Schmitty discovers that others with high connections are also after Shaw. The questions pile even higher when they learn of a shadowy history between Shaw and the deputy chief. A history with deadly consequences for the team as they uncover a threat that elevates the mission to a race against time.

MY THOUGHTS -
Wow! This book starts out exciting! It was very interesting, non-stop action.. I am really interested in tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes etc. So this book was right up my alley! I love reading books and watching movies about natural disasters, but... Was this natural?

This sure would make a great movie! The mix of disaster, government, and terrorism - just what people love to watch! LOL  This author is not afraid of doing radical stuff like killing people off! I like that!  I didn't read too much about the author before starting the book, about half way through I thought "Who the heck is this author and how does he know so much?". This story seemed so authentic.

I thought the first half of the book was good but it did have a couple slow spots, but the second half was totally amped up, not a dull moment! I was gripping my iPad reading on the edge of my seat.

You know all those little things that make you fall in love with a book? They don't really have anything to do with the story-line but they're just little tidbits like - your favorite drink, a place you've been before stuff like that that just give you a connection to the book? There were so many of those in this book for me. And there were sooooo many acronyms in this book (GWOT, JSOC, HRT, LAPD, RHD, CTSOB, JTTF... seriously!). In the beginning it kinda bugged me but half way through I just came to expect it, it was almost comical, like a personal joke between me and the book ;-)
"Some if us like our country music," Simonichi explained.
"You know the lyrics to a country song played backwards?" I asked.
"Nope."
"Your truck starts, your girl makes up with you, your dog comes back to  life, and you get     your job back." - LOL, hey now! Don't be hating on my country music!!
"Drink up people," he said. "It's cold but it's caffeine."
Anderson frowned at Mata. "Several days old?"
"No, fresh. I poured water over the grounds and filter five times. Like gourmet cold press with out the press."
"Regular f***ing barista." - Ha! I'd drink it, gotta have my coffee.

"I vote the b**** off the island," Anderson said... - Love the survivor reference! Been watching since day one!

"I want to take a shower with Sandra Bullock, but we're talking reality here, lady." Shaw said. - She's my favorite actress!
It's like the author got inside my head!

And of course, the ending was great. It was like all these balloons that were floating around and the author caught them all and tied them all together.

Afterthought - Are you freaking kidding me???!!!!

I finished the book, came into my computer to write my review, and the first thing I see on my CNN homepage is "Did drilling cause the quake?" It was about the earthquake in Oklahoma and if oil drilling was the cause.  http://money.cnn.com/2016/09/04/news/economy/oklahoma-earthquake-oil-gas-explainer/index.html  Talk about a coincidence! Or is it?

Great, exciting, fun book. My only question to the author - "Will this be out in audio?" my husband would love this book. He is a heavy haul/oversize truck driver and he listens to lots of audio books.

Thank you Partners in Crime for sending me this book for my honest review!
