Sweet Pursuits - Pauline Wiles

ABOUT THE BOOK -
What’s the recipe for a second chance at love?
After six blissful years with scientist boyfriend Owen, Bella Beecham was convinced he was about to pop the question she’d been longing to hear. Instead, he accepted a prestigious job in California and left England without a backwards glance. Now, Owen’s back in the village of Saffron Sweeting, and appears to be more eligible than ever. Bella’s determined that the man of her dreams won’t slip through her fingers again.
But her plans to tone up, trim down, and tempt Owen back into her life prove bittersweet. Although Bella’s talent for baking wins her new friends, her tasty treats have a disconcerting tendency to sabotage her own intentions. And as her increasingly bold attempts to recapture Owen’s heart stumble, Bella must question whether she’s chasing a guy who wants to be caught.

MY THOUGHTS -
This was one of those books where you wanted to smack some sense into the main character, Bella, . This book was everything I wanted it to be. It was fun, entertaining, frustrating at times (Yes, I like that - I like books that bring out emotion in me even if it is frustration!) and sweet and romantic in all the right places.
Al I can say is thank goodness Bella had a lot of really great friends helping her through this and looking out for her best interest, because she certainly didn't know what was best for her. Owen, her ex, whom she wanted back - was a complete jerk. He clearly didn't know anything about how to keep a woman happy. I don't know why Bella wanted him back so much. I'd kick his lackadaisical butt to the curb. Needless to say, there was great character development!
The other part of this book, and the best part for me, was Bella wanting to get back in shape (even if it was for the wrong reasons). She started eating better, watching her weight, and exercising. I, myself have joined a program, First Place 4 Health, and have lost 45 lbs! So I really enjoyed this part. I love reading books about other people's struggles and successes in the weight loss and get fit area!
It was just a tad slow and seemed longish in spots, but I did really end up liking it very much! It had a great ending too, something that is always important to me.
And - I would definitely read another book by this author!
