MY THOUGHTS -
First - I am probably not the best person to be reviewing this book (or maybe I am the best). I have been in a weight loss program for the past 3 years (First Place 4 Health) have lost 45 lbs. and kept it off and I am now the "Wellness Leader" for our group.
So I apologize in advance - I am very tough on weight loss books!

This book, while not horrible at all, did not really impress me. I am sure that this worked for him and it would also work for other people, that's not my point. I thought parts of it were too basic, simplistic, while others were to complicated, and I didn't feel like there was anything new that I didn't already know (or anyone who has ever been in a program wouldn't know already).
Adding more vegetables so you eat less other stuff, reading a nutrition label, adding exercise. These are all part of any program.

But then he starts eliminating foods and giving you a very limited diet. Which I do not agree with. I believe that it is better to just learn a healthier life style and eat healthy with out such limits. If I was only given a handful of foods that I could eat - I would never follow through no matter how much I wanted to loose the weight.
For ex. these are your veg. choices - Asparagus, bok choy, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, eggplant, kale, kai-lan, lettuce, mushrooms, onions, peppers, spinach, Swiss chard, tomato, zucchini.
Breakfast and lunch will consist of protein, fruit and vegetables from the options above. Dinner is protein and vegetables only.
Now I eat almost all of those veg anyway, I am a vegetarian and thank goodness some of the protein choices are beans and tofu or I would be screwed. To be so limited - I don't think I would have chosen to do this.

Another problem I have with it is - I do agree that you need to get up and move! Healthy eating must be combined with exercise. But - I think the kind of exercise he is talking about... I don't think even half my class could do! I am doing chair exercises with some of my women and just encouraging them to get up off the couch and walk around the house several times a day! there is no way they could do this "high intensity" exercise. I, myself have just started running 3 times a week and am doing a 5K on St. Patrick's Day! But I have already lost the weight and went from a size 14 to a now size 8!!! When I was a size 14 there is no way I could have run! I could barely walk a mile.

So, my point - For beginners, and people who have a hard time following through - this book plan is way to restrictive and hard. And for people who have already been dieting - this is really nothing new.

I voluntarily posted this review after receiving a copy of this book from RABT book tours Thank You!!

  2. Thanks for your comments and review. I appreciate your honesty.
A few points I'd like to make.
The highly restrictive section is only for 30 days and only once you have almost reached your goal. The motivation and goal setting sections add to this, making it easier for a short stretch to test your limits. Then you go back to the equilibrium mentioned in the previous sections.

The exercise section is for building up to a higher intensity over several months.
The initial level is in the first 8 weeks and has things like a couple of push-ups each day or walking around the block. Once that has been done for a couple months the initial level in the exercise section is much easier.
The book does mention all this.

I do appreciate that you may not be the intended audience here. This was written specifically for people that are in the same spot I was, being extremely overweight, eating nothing but junk food and low self esteem. I have received feedback from the target audience and the book has already made positive changes with them, which is all I wanted.

If you are looking for new concepts in weight loss or "diets" then you will be disappointed with every book. A healthy diet has been known for decades and can only be mentioned in limited ways before being repeated. There may be new methods such as intermittent fasting but the food choices remain the same.

I am happy to hear you have lost and kept off weight. Congratulations. I'm sure you'll continue to enjoy a healthy lifestyle and wish you all the best.

Again thanks for you review and have a great day.
