The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix

5 STARS!!!

ABOUT THE BOOK -

A fast-paced, thrilling horror novel that follows a group of heroines to die for, from the brilliant New York Times bestselling author of The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires.

In horror movies, the final girl is the one who’s left standing when the credits roll. The one who fought back, defeated the killer, and avenged her friends. The one who emerges bloodied but victorious. But after the sirens fade and the audience moves on, what happens to her?

Lynnette Tarkington is a real-life final girl who survived a massacre twenty-two years ago, and it has defined every day of her life since. And she’s not alone. For more than a decade she’s been meeting with five other actual final girls and their therapist in a support group for those who survived the unthinkable, putting their lives back together, piece by piece. That is until one of the women misses a meeting and Lynnette’s worst fears are realized—someone knows about the group and is determined to take their lives apart again, piece by piece.

But the thing about these final girls is that they have each other now, and no matter how bad the odds, how dark the night, how sharp the knife, they will never, ever give up.

MY THOUGHTS -

Holy cow... just holy cow!!! Where do I even start? This book was insanely good, emphasis on "insane". There are so many things that I love about this story!! First word that came to mind when I started reading this was “intense“. Then the second word that came to mind after reading half the book was “quirky”!! I loved it- quirky and intense, what could be better? I don’t know how a book can be so intense and full of action on every single page and so freaking hilarious at the same time. The more I read, the more crazy it got. But, crazy in a good way.

This book brought back all the wonderful memories of all those movies I watched as a teen. And yes, I watched them all! I loved them, couldn't get enough. So, if you were a fan of those "horror" movies of the 70's and early 80's you will love this book.

Character development? I love these ladies! The beginning of the story focuses more on the main character, Lynnette, whom I loved by the way! You really get to know a few of the others in the second half of the book. They were all just so crazy good! I loved them all for different reasons. Even if they were really BAD... I loved them for that. who doesn't love a bad guy (or girl). But, the character that really took the cake for me was... Fine! Oh, I loved Fine! He was kind of quiet and shy but really stood out to me. Well... you see, Fine was a plant. LOL, yes a house plant. Lynnette's plant whom she talks to throughout the whole book and it really is hilarious! Fine, the plant really takes on a persona. I could read a story just about him.

So you have all this zany, craziness through the last half of the book. And, yes it is really un-real. Like that would never happen in real life. but, this is not real life, this is a fiction book and it was just what I needed! Then the ending - The ending, The “who” in who done it blows my mind! Yep, never guessed.

This whole thing was total perfection for me!
