If The Sky Won’t Have Me - by Anne Leigh Parrish

ABOUT THE BOOK -

The poems in If The Sky Won’t Have Me weave a brilliant tapestry of the human condition, focusing on nature, the female experience, family drama, aging, politics, and regret. Images of water feature strongly, as do rebirth and regeneration, both physical and spiritual. A perfect sequel to the author’s debut collection, the moon won’t be dared, these poems expand and deepen our understanding of what it means to be alive in a complex world.

MY THOUGHTS -

A great collection of poems. I loved the imagery. As I was reading each one, I really felt like I was seeing it and almost living it. Each one was very heartfelt.

Along with the poetry there are some pieces of art thrown in (by Lydia Selk). I loved some of these almost as much as the poems.

This one really spoke to me -

Three Gifts
The first is standing in myself,
Seeing through my eyes, knowing I
Am rooted here, alone,
& no one I draw, close, adore, fear, or despise
Will ever move me out of it

The second is knowing everyone else,
Every single person, lives in themselves
As completely as I do

The third is theoretical, not yet proven:
My voice touches
Brings joy
