ABOUT THE BOOK -

When she hears the baby crying, she knows she has to do something to keep it safe. To protect it from its terrible parents. Even though the father of the child is Melissa's own son...

When Melissa Crawford snatches a crying baby from outside a house, she knows she's done the right thing. She can't bear to see the baby suffer one more day in that house, with those people. With her, baby Gabriel will be safe and loved. She is his grandmother after all...

But as Melissa is making her escape, she is involved in a terrible accident which forces her into hiding. She can't believe she's been so careless - now she has to lay low and let the dust settle.

Gabriel's parents won't care where he is, they'll be glad he's gone but if she goes to prison who will care for the little baby? Who will keep him safe?

But caring for Gabriel is harder than Melissa imagined. Why does he keep crying? Why won't he settle? Why does he remind her of another child she once loved...and lost?

MY THOUGHTS -

Hmm, this is a tough review for a tough subject - abuse. As someone who has been through all this myself, this was a very difficult book to read. It had me in tears (memories) in spots and I had to put the book down a few times. If you have never been a victim of abuse it is very easy to say "Just leave him!". That is so much easier said than done. I really felt a connection for Melissa's mom, Nancy.

This book is written in a dual timeline. The first is today - Melissa's story. This was also to hard to read at times. Besides the kidnapping - can we all just scream "CHILD ABUSE!" oh my word! I felt so bad for that baby! Then the author takes you back to Nancy's story (Melissa's mom). It does give you insight as to why Melisa is the way she is and why she does what she does.

There was one element of the story that I did not like. I will not tell and give it away. But, I felt that this was overdoing it. I don't think it needed to be there, and I don't think It added anything to the story. If anything, I felt that it took away from the story. Sometimes - more is NOT better. :-(

Overall I did like this book. I thought it was good, but had the potential to be great. I will keep my eye on this author.

*** warning - spousal abuse and child abuse
