The Childminder by Hayley Smith

4.5 STARS!

ABOUT THE BOOK -

You trust them with your child. You shouldn’t.

Each Monday after school, I look after my daughter
Coralie and four other kids from her class. We go to the park when it’s sunny, snuggle on the sofa reading books when it rains. Tuesdays to Fridays, the other parents take them. It’s perfect – a circle of free childcare and friendship. But this morning, I received an anonymous note. And now I’m terrified.

I know your darkest secrets
, it says.

None of you are what you seem.

You have five days to tell the truth. Or there will be consequences.

My blood runs ice-cold. I’ve hidden my darkest secret for years and can
never reveal it.

But when one of our group is killed, I know that I’m not the only one hiding a secret.
But will revealing what I’ve done keep my precious child safe, or will it put us in even more danger?

MY THOUGHTS -

This book started out good... and just kept getting better!

Things are not what they seem. People are not who they seem. Secrets. Secrets. It seemed like a new secret was revealed every chapter. This definitely kept me on the edge of my seat needing to know what the heck was going to happen next.

Great character development. Some characters I liked and some I didn't. But all of them - fun! Sometimes it's just fun to dislike (and mistrust) someone.

Needless to say this book has a lot of twists. That's what kept me reading. Very well done. The first half of the book took me a few days (more because of my schedule than anything) but the second half... I think I read almost in one sitting!

There are a few different timelines going on and different POV, but they are all very clearly labeled. Thank you very much LOL, I love when chapters are labeled! This one was not confusing at all.

A very good read - highly recommend! This author does have a couple other books which I think I am going to have to check out.

I voluntarily posted this review after receiving a copy of this book from Bookouture, Storyfire Ltd.

Thank You!!
