The Road to Marietta - Karla Jordan
5 STARS!
ABOUT THE BOOK -
It’s the summer of 1930, August Violet Finnegan longs to be
like other twelve year old girls, but she is not.
She is the daughter of a moonshine runner, who decides that
she is getting in the way of his money-making business.
When August's father agrees to an unthinkable deal that will
affect the rest of her life, she realizes she will need to grow up quickly in
order to survive.
A series of events will lead her to a place she hopes to
call home. She isn't there long when she realizes that won't be the case at
all.
She learns the hard way that dark alleys in the city aren't the only place that bad people are to be avoided.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR -
I've been writing since I was about 10 years old, if not before. My grandmother taught me how to love a good book and I will always be grateful for that. I live in Maine with my husband, our dog Pumpkin and our cat, Shadow. I'm working on my next book currently.
MY THOUGHTS -
Amazing! This book was so much better than I ever thought it would be! This is a "coming of age" story about a young girl who just could not get a break in life.
August’s story was heartbreaking, sad, and yet somehow uplifting and truly amazing. How one girl so young could go through so much in her short lifetime. It is uplifting because she didn’t quit she just kept going, kept trying. Life sure dealt her some pretty hard circumstances. One of them being a father who just didn’t care for her at all and wanted to be done with his responsibilities. Then she goes through a series of one horrifying situation to another and then to another. But somehow she manages to keep on going and even keeps a positive attitude about it all. Truly an amazing young girl. I loved August and actually felt very close to her and wanted her life to get better.
