ABOUT THE BOOK:

Join Stikki and his mate Rella on their second exciting adventure—full of mystery, danger, and the wonders of magic found in the most unexpected places.

Winter has arrived in Hazy Hills Wood, covering everything in a blanket of snow. Food is hard to find, and the animals are getting hungry. To make things worse, there is a scary food thief on the prowl.

Stikki heads out into the cold to find his secret stash, but when he doesn’t come home, Rella goes searching for him. A frightening journey looms ahead as Stikki and Rella are forced to confront their enemies and the dreaded longlegs.

Deep in the heart of the ancient wood stands the animals’ sacred ash tree. When Brodboar the badger spots something strange high on the tree’s branches, he is shocked by the discovery and begins to worry. Is it a warning?

With Stikki and Rella still missing—can the woodland animals work together to find their friends before it’s too late?

MY THOUGHTS:

What a delightful sweet story and an absolute joy to read!

Like in Charlotte‘s Web, The Secret of NIHM, and the fabulous Watership Down, it always amazes me how authors can write a story using animals as the main characters and make them sound as though they are people. This one was very believable. I fell in love with Stikki and his mate Rella right away.

This story is very sweet as you follow two squirrels, their family, and friends through their woods and beyond. It gets a little scary and intense but all ends well and is a very heartwarming story.

I’m going to save this one and give it to my granddaughter. I think this is one that she would really enjoy when she’s a little bit older. I would recommend this for slightly older children (10 - 12 yr. olds), not because of content, but because of the use of some large words that young children wouldn’t understand yet.
But even as an adult, I enjoyed this very much.

I voluntarily posted this review after receiving a copy of this book from Rachel's Random Resources -  Thank You!!
