What Lies Next Door by Shelly M Patel

5 STARS!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

In Edgewood Estates, perfect homes hide deadly secrets.
Sophia and Josh Miller are desperate for a fresh start. The quiet Virginia Beach neighborhood seems like everything they have been searching for—beautiful homes, friendly neighbors, and the promise of a safe new beginning.

But something about Edgewood Estates feels wrong.
The neighbors watch too carefully. Conversations stop when Sophia enters the room. At night, footsteps echo outside their house, and shadows move behind darkened windows.
Then there is Hana Wilson.

Charming, welcoming, and always smiling, Hana quickly inserts herself into Sophia’s life. Homemade cookies. Friendly advice. Constant attention. But beneath Hana’s warmth lies something unsettling… something dangerous.

As Sophia’s paranoia grows, so do the secrets buried inside the neighborhood.
When a woman connected to Josh suddenly vanishes, and a body is discovered just steps from their home, Edgewood Estates transforms from a dream community into a nightmare crime scene. Detectives begin asking questions. Neighbors turn on each other. And Sophia realizes someone has been watching them from the very beginning.

Someone wants the Millers gone.
And the closer Sophia gets to the truth, the more she understands that danger is not outside the neighborhood.
It lives next door.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Shelly M. Patel writes suspense novels that unravel perfect lives one secret at a time. Her award-winning novel, The Perfect One, proved that she has a talent for crafting stories that keep readers guessing and turning pages long past midnight.

With a Ph.D. in Pharmacology–Clinical Research and a master’s degree in Clinical Trials and Drug Development, Shelly brings a sharp, analytical edge to her fiction. She knows how to follow clues…and how to twist them. You could say she’s mastered the art of getting away with murder, at least on the pages.

She lives in Virginia Beach with her husband, their three children, and dog, Teddy. When she’s not plotting her next twist, she’s reading spirituality books, traveling, or making memories with the people she loves most.

MY THOUGHTS:

A very quick, fun read. This one was certainly a page turner! Every single page held unanswered questions, lies, secrets, and left me wondering “What the heck is going on in that neighborhood?“

The main players - Sophia and Josh who just moved into a new home. I loved Sophia, she was my favorite character. I just felt like I really connected with her the most. Hannah and Brian, the creepy neighbors. And when I say creepy I mean… CREEPY! The secondary characters, Tracy and Henry certainly add some fun flair to the story! All of them had secrets, all of them had stuff going on, all of them had major flaws. This was like one huge spiderweb that I was frantically trying to untangle.

There are multiple POVs which kept it very interesting and eye-opening indeed! There were quite a few jaw dropping moments. This book is definitely worth the read! Very intense, very twisty, very addictive, and I enjoyed it VERY much.
Be sure to add this one to your TBR pile!

Thank you to Shelly M. Patel for providing me with a copy for my honest review.
