MY THOUGHTS:
I love that she took her adventures, her life at Bear Shack and wrote about it in the form of poetry. This book is filled with nature, the smells, the sounds. Poems about the weather, snowstorms, blizzards, the cold and even ice storms. Fall - "It's almost ridiculous - leaves throwing themselves to the ground with such gusto." But also, the wonderful sings of spring. "Just birds - hopping everywhere, too many to count". Many about the animals, birds, squirrels, eagles, and deer. I love how her dog reacts to nature and all the animals. This was very heartwarming.
But my favorite poem in here was just about life and being a "girl". I Know Why The Free Bird Sings - "Told I wasn't ladylike - dings and scrapes always visible... translated to me: Girls aren't supposed to wear their bruises on the outside." Long ago I had my share of bruises that I kept hidden for years. Not anymore!
