Book Description:
Charlie West went to bed one night an ordinary high school student. He woke up a hunted man. Terrorists are trying to kill him. The police want to arrest him for a murder he doesn't remember committing. He was tried and convicted for the stabbing of his best friend. He doesn't know whose side he's one or who he can trust. With his pursuers closing in on every side, Charlie makes his way back to his hometown to find some answers. There, holed up in an abandoned mansion, he's joined by his friends in a desperate attempt to discover the truth about a murder he can't remember-and the love he can never forget.

My Review: I did not realize that this was the second book in a series, that being said... It didn't really matter at all. The Author did a real fine job of catching you up. I didn't feel like I really missed anything. Being part of a series though it does kind of leave you hanging at the end. So... great, now I have to read the third book to find out what happens! Which I will do gladly.

Charlie, the main character in this book was kind of like a teenage James Bond. This was a very exciting, "on the edge of your seat" kind of book! I really enjoyed it - I gave it 4 stars. The character development was very good. Even though there were a lot of people, you do get to know everyone. In between the adventure parts there were flashbacks, these were very touching and heartfelt. I actually had a tear in the middle of the book. I thought this was very well put together and very well thought out.

This is labeled a YA (young adult) book but I really think anyone would enjoy it, male or female, young or older. Very easy to read and easy to follow. There is no swearing or sexual content, so I would recommend it to younger readers as well.

I have not read anything by this Author before. He has written many books, so I will have to check out some of his others.

I would like to eventually give this book away but I think I will wait till the third book comes out (Nov. 2010) then give them both away at once.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com http://BookSneeze.com> book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

  1. Nice review! I haven't read this author yet either. Dontcha hate it when you start a book and realize it's part of a series and the one in your hand isn't the first? I would have had to go back to #1 before I could have read #2. I'm funny that way. :)

  2. Good review, very informative. Are you going to go back and read the first book before you read the third? You know I have a problem relating to books where a male is the main character... knowing that, do you think I'd like it?

  3. You write such great book reviews Wendy! This sounds like a great book to read too! I'm getting kind of tired of all my nature and travel essay books so it's time to mix it up! :-)

  6. I think that Klavan may be the son of the legendary NY radio host, Gene Klavan, who used to make me howl with laughter as I commuted to work in the morning.

Not that this has anything to do with your review at all, just thought I'd mention it. And now you know.

I could, however, be totally wrong.

  7. Sounds like a good read Wendy. Something new and different for me, but I'd give it a shot.

  8. Hi Wendy,

Great review of the book! Knowing that you jumped in on the second in the series, I'd love to send you ten copies of book one for you and your blog followers to jump in at the beginning of the series (I work with Drew at Thomas Nelson, the publisher of this series). Interested?

    Thanks,
    Jennifer
